This week, Dr. Camden B. Pulliam joins Dr. Jared Bumpers on Preaching and Preachers on the topic of "Pastoral Fatherhood." Dr. Pulliam serves as Assistant Professor of Christian Studies, as well as Senior Vice President of Institutional Relations, at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary & Spurgeon College. In the latter role, he oversees Admissions, Church Partnerships, Communications, Financial Aid, Institutional Relations Initiatives, and Student Life and Events for the institution.
Dr. Pulliam earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and Psychology from Southwest Baptist University in 2010 and a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2013. In 2020, he completed his Ph.D. at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; his dissertation is titled Paternal Pastors: An Evangelical Approach.
Before coming to Midwestern in 2013, Dr. Pulliam served on staff at churches in Indiana and Missouri as well as at his alma mater, SBU. He and his wife, Mallory, have three children – Hudson, Hallie, and Brooks.

This week, Dr. Robert Smith Jr. joins me on the podcast to reflect on his ministry of preaching and teaching. Robert Smith Jr. serves as Distinguished Professor of Divinity at Beeson Divinity School. Before Smith served as professor of Christian preaching at Beeson for more than 25 years and held the Charles T. Carter Baptist Chair of Divinity. Previously, he served as the Carl E. Bates Associate Professor of Christian Preaching at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Smith is the 2017 E. K. Bailey Expository Preaching Conference Living Legend.
He is a contributing editor for a study of Christian ministry in the African American church, Preparing for Christian Ministry, and is co-editor of A Mighty Long Journey. Additionally, he has served as an editor of Our Sufficiency Is of God: Essays on Preaching in Honor of Gardner C. Taylor (Mercer University Press, Macon, Georgia: 2010) and Worship, Tradition, and Engagement: Essays in Honor of Timothy George (Eugene, OR: Pickwick, 2018). He has written the book, Doctrine That Dances: Bringing Doctrinal Preaching and Teaching to Life (B&H Publishing Group, Nashville: 2008), which was selected as the winner of the 2008 Preaching Book of the Year Award by Preaching magazine and the 2009 Preaching Book of the Year Award by Christianity Today’s preaching.com. In 2010, Preaching magazine named Doctrine That Dances one of the 25 most influential books in preaching for the last 25 years. He also has written The Oasis of God: From Mourning to Morning—Biblical Insights from Psalms 42 and 43. His latest book is Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary: Exalting Jesus in Joshua (B&H Publishing Group, Nashville).

This week, Dr. Peter J. Williams joins me for a Q&A session from his recent visit to Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Williams is the Principal and CEO of Tyndale House, Cambridge. Additionally, Dr. Willians is an Affiliated Lecturer in the Faculty of Divinity in the University of Cambridge, Chair of the International Greek New Testament Project and a member of the Translation Oversight Committee of the English Standard Version of the Bible. He assisted Dr Dirk Jongkind in Tyndale House’s production of a major edition of the Greek New Testament and his book Can We Trust the Gospels? (Crossway, 2018) has been translated into 14 languages. His latest book, The Surprising Genius of Jesus: What the Gospels Reveal about the Greatest Teacher (Crossway), was published in October 2023.
